She also helps develop and train future business leaders through the Boomer Leadership Academy, contributes to the Boomer Bulletin and other industry publications, and speaks at industry conferences. . The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants named her one of the 25 Most Influential Women in Accounting.

When she’s not working, you might find Campbell reading an e-book, watching a movie with her three kids, or dreaming of a vacation in the Maldives.

What is your official title and what does it mean? My title is shareholder and consultant. Shareholding goes without saying – I own Boomer Consulting Inc., along with five other shareholders. Our team offers communities, guidance and training focused on five areas critical to the success of a CPA firm: leadership, talent, growth, technology and process. As a consultant, I work with major accounting firms to offer ideas that help them improve their processes and develop their people.

Free time: book, audiobook or podcast? Certainly books. I love to read and I prefer e-books to paper books, so I always have the book I’m reading available on my phone. I don’t listen to podcasts often, but when I do, I listen to Boomer Briefing, a weekly podcast that helps business leaders solve a critical business problem in 20 minutes or less.

Taxation is a big topic. What is your particular area of interest? My particular area of interest is helping companies implement process improvements that leverage outsourcing and automation to support the business of the future. I also help companies solve talent challenges with a focus on increasing capacity so they can deliver more value. I support companies in these changes in their tax services, but also in their areas of auditing, consulting, administration, etc.

What is the last movie or show you watched and liked (DVD, Netflix or at the cinema)? I have 12-year-old twin daughters and an 8-year-old son, and we’re looking forward to the release of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ later this year. We just rewatched the first movie, it’s one of our favorites!

What college did you attend and what did you study? I earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. (Go Badgers!) I also received a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt from The Ohio State University and a Six Sigma Black Belt from the University of Georgia. Six Sigma is a set of tools and techniques that companies can use to improve production, eliminate defects, and ensure quality.

Pick up: Coffee or tea? I love coffee, although I drink decaffeinated, which some say doesn’t count. However, I really enjoy my cup of decaf in the morning.

What is the best tax or financial advice someone has ever given you? How important it is to start financial literacy education at a young age. My husband and I are working on this with our three kids and putting things in place to help them succeed, including learning about investing, credit, and taxes.

If you weren’t in the tax field, what would your dream job be? I would be a travel blogger who gets paid to visit beautiful sunny places and review their resorts!

If you had the option of making one change in the tax world — an extra credit, a disallowed deduction, whatever — what would it be? I would make sure every business leader understands how important the employee experience is to delivering a great customer experience. If you want to be the best at what you do, it starts with your people.

Favorite food, snack or treat during tax time or another busy time? Fries and queso. The good news is that we don’t necessarily have a busy season since we help businesses all year round, so I always have a reason to enjoy potato chips and queso!

What tax news or ruling has had the most impact on your practice or clients in the past year? News about talent struggles has impacted our customers and the conversations we have. The talent shortage is not new, but it has received increased attention in the wake of the pandemic. Our clients focus on attracting, recruiting and retaining talent. This requires supporting remote and hybrid working, improving processes and technology, and upskilling and reskilling people.

If you got a big tax refund check right now, what would you do with it? I would travel. I would go to the Maldives and rent a nice bungalow on the beach, preferably without internet access so I can unplug and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
